Irving Oil Override Program Saving Customers Millions
As of February 27, the Irving Oil gas stations' "override program" had put more than $10 million back into the pockets of consumers throughout New England.
Not familiar with the program? Well, you may have noticed if you've filled up at an Irving gas station recently that the credit card machine asks you to enter a loyalty card after you've swiped your credit card. Those loyalty cards come from Irving program partners like Shaw’s Supermarkets and Dunkin’ Donuts. And how it works is that once you've registered on the Irving Web site, your purchases at Shaw's and Dunkins then give you discounts on gas at Irving gas stations.
Participating Shaw’s Supermarkets offer gas savings to their customers, which can then be redeemed at Irving locations throughout Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and in select areas in Vermont and Rhode Island. To make the program even more convenient, customers using their Shaw’s Rewards Card when they shop for groceries can use that same card at the pump to receive a lower per gallon price. (For the past year, people participating in the program were issued paper coupons, which meant having to go into the store to redeem the savings.)
Cards purchased from Dunkin’ Donuts cards are registered on the Irving Web site and also swiped when refueling for lower prices.
