Introducing A New Name: Override
No more paper coupons in select areas
PORTSMOUTH, NH – Beginning Friday, June 27, Shaw’s Supermarkets and Irving Oil are bringing one of the most popular gas savings programs ever created back to the region where it all began.
In July 2007, Shaw’s and Irving chose a few New Hampshire towns to introduce their gas savings program, and now it is returning in a faster and more convenient way of saving. Now, all shoppers have to do is use their wallet-sized Shaw’s Rewards Card when purchasing groceries at a participating Shaw’s, and redeem their savings the following day at a participating Irving location.
When customers swipe their Shaw’s Rewards Card at the pump, they can watch the price of gas per gallon roll back to reflect the savings they have earned.
The program is called Override, because it gives consumers the power to override the price at the pump.
“Override is easy, it’s fast, it’s all electronic, and the best part is you don’t have to do anything different than you’re already doing today. We are incredibly excited to introduce this program to customers in this area just in time for their summer road trips,” said Harry Hadiaris, Director of Business to Consumer Operations for Irving. “Override is truly the right program at the right time.”
The minimum grocery purchase to start saving at Shaw’s is $50, which will reduce the per gallon price at the pump by 10 cents. Shoppers can save up to 60 cents off a gallon – up to 20 gallons at each fill-up - if their grocery purchase tops $300.
The savings will be stored on their Shaw’s Rewards Card. The Card can then be used the following day at a participating Irving gas location. Savings will expire 15 days from the date they earned them.
“Override is a perfect way for us to kick off the summer season, and it’s a very practical way for the customers of both retailers to save on gas,” said Larry Wahlstrom, President of Shaw’s. “Everybody will be stocking up on groceries, whether it’s for their regular family meals, or their annual July 4 barbecue. And when they shop at Shaw’s, they’ll save at Irving. It’s an incredible combination – and one that consumers have responded to in record numbers in Maine and New Hampshire for the past year. We’re excited to bring the program back to the area where we started.”
The program was introduced in New Hampshire in July 2007, and has been expanded because of the overwhelming popular demand. Customers can earn their gas savings at a participating Shaw’s until Sept. 4, and they can redeem their savings at a participating Irving location until Sept. 18.
"At Irving and Shaw’s we are committed to finding ways to bring additional value to our customers," said Hadiaris. "Override allows us to reward our customers for something they do almost every day - buy food for their families."
